Above the Clouds
In the Bajawa language, Laga Lizu means “above the clouds.” This coffee lives up to its name—grown high on the volcanic slopes of Flores, nourished by rich, loamy soil from the Inerie and Ebulobo volcanoes. The result is a cup layered with tropical fruit sweetness, molasses depth, and a delicate hint of spice.
Culture & Craft
Coffee in Bajawa isn’t just a crop; it’s culture. Every household tends coffee, and visitors are greeted with a steaming black cup as a sign of hospitality. Women play a central role, inheriting land and managing farms in this matrilineal society.
Innovative Processing
With the help of Sucafina and local communities, a new facility now produces anaerobically fermented washed coffees alongside naturals and honeys. Cherries are carefully hand-picked, fermented for 72 hours, washed, and then dried on raised beds before final hand-sorting.
Flores coffee is a rare origin, defined by its volcanic terroir, cultural richness, and a commitment to innovation. A coffee that feels both rooted in tradition and lifted by the clouds.
