Sweetness from Kayanza
High in the hills of northern Burundi, Kibingo washing station gathers the harvests of nearly 1,800 smallholder farmers. At 1,893 metres above sea level, this station produces coffees with clarity, floral brightness, and a honey-like sweetness that reflects both the terroir and the meticulous processing.
Community & Collaboration
Greenco, the station’s partner, is reshaping Burundi’s coffee landscape. Farmers are organised in groups of 30, supported with training in agronomy, access to organic compost from coffee pulp, and subsidised seedlings for renovation. These initiatives ensure quality in the cup and resilience in the community.
Precision in Processing
At Kibingo, cherries are hand-picked, floated, and sorted with care. Pulping happens within hours of harvest, followed by honey processing and careful drying on raised beds for 2–3 weeks. Only the highest quality parchment makes it through to milling, with every lot cupped for consistency and traceability.
Burundi’s coffees are among the sweetest and cleanest in East Africa, and Kibingo Honey RA exemplifies this—an elegant cup that balances fruit, florals, and golden sweetness.
